Parkinson’s disease is a life-changing condition for many people. Parkinson’s is the most common nervous system disorder for the elderly. Approximately 1 in every 500 people are living with Parkinson’s disease. This is around 127,000 people.
Parkinson’s progressively impacts the brain. This leads to an array of symptoms that are difficult to manage. No matter what your situation is, whether you have just been diagnosed or managing the later stages of the disease, Guardian Carers can provide you or your family member with the right carer at home.
We understand that every individual who is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease is different and symptoms would vary from person to person, therefore we can offer you the relevant care for your specific requirements. Whether you are only looking for a few hours per week or for more in-depth care, Guardian Carers can support you and your family member.
Live-in care is one of the most comprehensive types of care at home you can find. Live-in care is particularly beneficial for someone with Parkinson’s disease. Our live-in care service can be enlisted 7 days a week, 24 hours per day or it can be tailored depending on your family member’s needs and requirements.
We can also offer live-out care - another popular option. Live-out carers will support your family member with their daily tasks and activities. They will be able to support them with more than just household tasks, such as helping with medication, mobility and engaging in daily activities.
If your family member only needs minimal support, part-time care at home may be the right option for them. Their carer can be available once a week, for a minimum of 3 hours per day or for multiple days per week. If your family member does not require constant support, then this type of care service will be suitable for them.
Guardian Carers can also provide your family member with a housekeeper-carer. They can be hired on a live-in or live-out basis, either part-time or full-time. Hiring a housekeeper-carer is great, as your family member will receive the support they need in terms of personal care, for example, but they will also be supported with any household chores they may have.
Here at Guardian Carers, we have over 15 years of experience in the domestic placement industry. Over the years, our consultants have perfected our vetting process and they keep learning and improving their methods along the way. We believe that our expert vetting process contributes to our candidates staying in long, fulfilling and happy placements.
Our vetting process starts with interviewing the candidates. Based on the job description provided by yourself, your personal consultant will research the most suitable candidates. Once they have found candidates that match your exact specifications, they will set up interviews with them. The interviews can take place via video link or face to face, depending on the location of the candidate and the health measures in place at the time (for example, Covid-19 restrictions).
For your peace of mind, you should know that our consultants will only interview candidates which have a minimum of 2 years of professional care experience. During the interview, they will go through the carer’s skills and qualifications relating to the role and discuss their experience at length.
They also make sure to check any certificates or diplomas which are relevant to the role. They also ensure that the carer has a clean background by reviewing their enhanced DBS check.
If the carer does not have a DBS check that is in date, our consultants will support them in applying for one. The final step in vetting the carer is checking their references. Our consultants do this by calling the carer’s previous employers and asking them questions relating to the role. Each carer must provide 2 references for the consultant to speak to.
Finding the right carer to support your family member with their Parkinson’s disease is easy with Guardian Carers. Once you have provided a detailed job description to our consultants, they will start the recruitment process for the best carer.
Our consultants will advertise your role and look for carers especially for your role and then vet them for you. Once they have been expertly vetted, you will receive these carers’ profiles to choose from.
You will make your selection of carers whom you prefer the most and then you will be offered the chance to interview them as well. Depending on your preferences, you can interview them face to face, via video link or on the phone.
Once you have conducted your interviews and you have found a carer you absolutely love, your consultant will support you and your family member’s new carer with the hiring process. If you decide to hire a carer on a permanent basis, our consultants will provide you with sample contracts to use and liaise with the carer throughout the process.
Your family member will benefit from a free payroll service for the first 6-months and a free 6-month replacement period. This means that if something doesn’t go according to plan and you think your carer does not work for you or your loved one’s needs, we will restart the recruitment process and find you a replacement carer free of charge. However, you should know that the likelihood of having to ask for a replacement is extremely slim. Our replacement rate is as low as 5%.
