Funding for care services

Care is a service which can be available to anyone. No matter your circumstances, you should know that you can benefit from quality care services at home. If you don’t have part or all the funds available to cover the cost of care at home, there are a number of funding options which you could qualify for.

Guardian Carers has been supporting people in their homes regardless of their financial situation. So if you are receiving or you are about to receive funding, our carers will be able to support your independence at home.

The different funding options available

There are quite a number of funding options available for people in the UK. These funding options may be income-based or disability-based, for instance. If you are considering any of the following funding options you need to meet the eligibility criteria. All funding methods entail an assessment. Here are some funding options which may work for you:

  • Local Authority Funding. To get local authority funding, the threshold is £27,000 in the UK. First, you need to pass a means test which will determine if you possess assets greater than £27,000. Assets refer to savings, properties or investments, for example.
  • NHS Continuing Care. This funding is for people who suffer from complex medical conditions, long-term illnesses, cognitive disorders or mobility issues. If the assessment declares you are eligible for funding, the NHS will cover the complete costs of care.
  • Disability Living Allowance. This funding is for people over the age of 65 who suffer from a disability, have a long-term condition or have mobility issues.
  • Attendance Allowance. This is for people over the age of 65 who require personal care due to a disability or illness.
  • Council Tax Reduction/Exemption. This option is available for people who suffer from a form of severe mental impairment. If this is the case, you will be exempt from paying council tax.

These are just the main funding options available. There may be other funding options or benefits you could qualify for. The aim of funding is to allow you to receive the care you need at home, based on your needs and requirements, if your regular income will not cover it.

The funding assessment process

If you are applying for funding from a local authority you need to get in contact with your local authority body. The process shouldn’t be too complicated. As with almost all funding you need to apply to, you must first go through an assessment process. This is the same for your council or if you apply for NHS funding, for example.

Once you have applied for funding someone will assess your situation. The process will be different depending on what you are applying for. Some assessments can be done over the phone while some need to go more in-depth and are performed in person.

For example, with NHS Continuing Care you will have to go through two rounds of assessments. There will be an initial screening process followed by a second one which goes into more detail.

Depending on the different funding options you choose, you will have a professional come into your home to perform the assessment. This person can be someone from your local council, a social worker, a nurse or a doctor.

If our years in the care industry we have helped myriads of people live independently and comfortably in their homes. No matter their background, financial situation or needs. So if you are a recipient of funding or benefits, we can support you.

As mentioned above, all our carers are expertly vetted. This means that they go through an extensive interview process where their experience and qualifications are discussed at length. More than this, we also require that they have an enhanced DBS check, which ensures they have a clean background.

All our carers have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the care industry. The average experience of our carers is 8 years, while many of them have over 15 years of experience even.

A special thing about Guardian Carers, besides our amazing carers, is that you can get to interview these carers face to face before making your decision to hire. This will ensure that the carers don’t just look great on paper, but they are a great personality match as well.

More than this, Guardian Carers will take care of all the paperwork, so you don’t have to. We will provide you with sample contracts, sign you up to HMRC as an employer and even provide a free payroll service for the first 6 months.
