Luckily, with the help of care agencies such as Guardian Carers, you don’t have to worry about any of this, as they will do all the work for you - from researching carers to placing advertisements, vetting carers to arranging interviews, contracts, payroll and much more. Keep reading to find out how we vet our carers, the process we follow, and the process of hiring a carer.
During our years of placing carers, companions and housekeepers into our clients’ homes, we have perfected our vetting process and we keep learning and improving our methods along the way. We believe that our expert vetting process contributes to our candidates staying in long, fulfilling and happy placements.
Our vetting process starts with interviewing the candidates. Based on the job description provided by yourself, your personal consultant will research the most suitable candidates. Once they have found candidates that match your criteria to a tee, they will set up interviews with them. The interviews can take place via video link or face to face, depending on the location of the candidate and the health measures in place at the time (for example, Covid-19 restrictions).
It is important to note that our consultants will only interview candidates which have a minimum of 2 years of professional care experience. This is our promise to you. During the interview, they will go through the carer’s skills and qualifications relating to the role and discuss their experience at length.
More than this, our consultants also make sure to check any certificates or diplomas which are relevant to the role. They also ensure that the carer has a clean background by reviewing their enhanced DBS check. If the carer does not have a DBS check which is in date, the consultant will support them in applying for one.
The last step in vetting the carer is checking their references. Our consultants do this by calling the carer’s previous employers and asking them questions relating to the role. Each carer must provide 2 references for the consultant to speak to.
Now, that you know what our vetting process is like, you probably have a clear understanding of what it truly entails to search for a carer and vet them in order to ensure you hire the right person to work in your home. You may be wondering ‘What does the process of hiring a carer look like?’. With Guardian Carers, it’s very simple.
The first step entails having an initial conversation with one of our expert care consultants. During this consultation, you will talk about what type of carer you are looking for, who they will be required to look after and what conditions or special requirements the care receiver has, when you would like the carer to start and how long you would like them to work, the tasks you require of them and what your expectations are of a carer, among many other things.
Once all of this has been established, your personal consultant will start the search. They will advertise your role and look for carers especially for your role and then vet them for you. Once they have been expertly vetted, you will receive these carers’ profiles to choose from.
You will make your selection of carers whom you prefer the most and then you will be offered the chance to interview them as well. Depending on your preferences, you can interview them face to face, via video link or on the phone.
Once you have conducted your interviews and you have found a carer you absolutely love, your personal consultant will support you and your new carer with the hiring process.
You and your chosen carer will have to confirm the employment. Then, your personal consultant will provide you with sample contracts which you can use. If you are hiring your carer on a permanent basis, you will benefit from using our payroll service free of charge for the first 6 months.
What is more, you will also benefit from a 6-month replacement guarantee. This means that if something doesn’t go according to plan and you think your carer does not work for you or your loved one’s needs, we will restart the recruitment process and find you a replacement carer free of charge.
However, you should know that the likelihood of having to ask for a replacement is extremely slim. Our vetting process is designed in such a way that we can find you the most suitable carer who can care for you or your loved one for as long as you need them to.
You should know that your personal consultant will still keep in touch with you even after your carer has settled into your home. They will keep in touch with you and your carer to see how things are going, to offer their support and answer any questions if that is needed. Our consultants maintain close relationships with both clients and carers for years after they have been placed.
Here at Guardian Carers, we provide a wide range of care, companionship and housekeeping services for clients all over the UK and internationally.
