How we are helping our carers get vaccinated

At Guardian Carers, your safety is our top priority. At this time, we are providing our carers with documentation to enable them to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. Many of our carers have already received their COVID-19 vaccine.

We continue to closely monitor the situation. We advise our clients to take all necessary safety precautions such as limiting contact with people outside the home, keeping a safe distance from others and maintaining hand hygiene. We endeavour to only place carers who have tested negative for COVID-19 and advise our clients to do the same.

Talking about COVID-19 vaccinations for carers on BBC London

Guardian Carers - BBC

Guardian Carers Managing Director, Renate Winkler, spoke to BBC London about COVID-19 vaccinations for home care staff. She spoke about the difficulties that many of our carers had faced when trying to get their vaccinations and what we are doing to help them.

“A lot of carers have struggled to get appointments. They’ve been told ‘You’re a private carer, it’s not your turn yet. We are prioritising people in care homes or you’re not working for your local council”, Winkler said.

“We’ve had some carers who have moved a group up, but they still haven’t been able to get appointments.” Our carers Shirani and Josephine also spoke on the programme about the problems and adversities they have faced.

At the moment, we are doing everything we can to ensure that all our carers receive their COVID-19 vaccinations as soon as possible and the figure is growing day by day. Our carers are provided with letters that attest their eligibility as home care staff and we are advising them to use the national booking system on 119.

Carer shortage and the impact of Brexit on home care

We are predicting a shortage of carers, as the Brexit situation unfolds. Moreover, as carers are getting vaccinated, they are likely to demand higher levels of pay, so we advise you to plan ahead for your care.

“ At Guardian Carers, your safety and security continue to be our top priority. We are dedicated to protecting the health of our carers, our clients, our colleagues and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
- Vanessa Cook, CEO
